The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL) research group currently consists of two full professors, one associate professor, seven assistant professors as well as PhD students and support staff. The main research focus is applied data-driven AI via machine learning and semantic technologies. To ensure a research group with great relevance, a significant part of research and education is carried out in collaboration with the surrounding society and industry. JAIL is building a multidisciplinary team with members from several relevant disciplines, including machine learning, deep learning, NLP, explainable AI and visualization, ontologies and linked data, embedded AI and IoT, etc. Today, we are the largest research group in Computer Science at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University, and we are now ready to take the next step. We are on a strong growth trajectory and are now looking for up to four associate or assistant professors. We are looking for those of you who are passionate, independent, creative, curious, and who want to be part of helping us to develop excellent research and education.

 

Our offer to you

In the role as associate/assistant professor, you will primarily conduct research and education. Typical assignments include teaching (including course responsibilities and supervision/ examination of degree projects) and participation in research projects. You are also expected to contribute actively to the development of the JAIL research group, as well as the department's education programs and courses.

Main duties include:

  • Independent planning and execution of research, and dissemination of research results through publication
  • Participation in the preparation of applications for external research grants
  • Participation in research projects, preferably in co-production with the industry
  • Supervision of thesis work at both a basic and an advanced level, and supervision of doctoral students
  • Course and program development
  • Teaching, including course responsibilities, at all levels
  • Contribute actively to the development of the Jönköping AI Laboratory (JAIL) research group as well as the department's research and education 

 

Your profile

We expect applicants for this position to:

Have solid and documented knowledge in at least one of the following research areas:

  • Artificial intelligence, e.g., machine learning, natural language processing and text mining, computer vision, deep learning, edge computing, explainable AI, human-centered AI, FAT (fairness, accountability and transparency), knowledge representation and semantics, etc.
  • Software engineering, e.g., software engineering methodology, data modelling, systems architecture, database technology, etc.; especially supporting or using AI technologies.

Have solid and documented knowledge in at least one of the following teaching areas:

  • Artificial intelligence, embedded systems, programming/software development, database systems, research methods within computer science, high performance computing, web and mobile technologies, computer networking, etc.

Jönköping University and the School of Engineering has an international focus, which requires strong English proficiency for both teaching and research tasks.

Furthermore, meritorious for the appointment are:

  • Swedish language skills.
  • Strong track record of research in collaboration with industry.
  • Research track records within one of the following areas: SE4ML, NLP.

Information

The starting date for this permanent and full-time position is negotiated.
Annual working time for teachers according to the university's collective agreement. The University of Jönköping implements individual salary setting.
