We are looking for a highly motivated, and goal-oriented candidate with a background in Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent.
Welcome to the department of Materials and Manufacturing. We are a vibrant multidisciplinary research environment that advances state-of-the-art knowledge and fosters the development of highly skilled researchers and professionals. The department cooperates with various national and international research institutions and industrial partners and is engaged in basic and applied research projects. Co-production with industrial partners is a strong characteristic of our project portfolio, both with large companies and SMEs. One of the research directions is aluminium and light alloys.
Within this research direction, we work on both primary and secondary aluminium alloys to support the sustainable development of the foundry industry. The formation of the microstructure in casting and forming processes and correlating it with (thermos-physical and mechanical) properties are of interest.
The focus is also on developing the actual casting and forming process and tooling. The end game is to gather data and develop descriptions allowing for life-span prediction of the cast and wrought components in use. We work towards zero emission processes that can produce sound components using recycled materials with high material efficiency and zero or near zero material losses.
The work is to take part in a major effort to reach zero emissions in alloy manufacturing. The work will be performed 50% of the time at Jönköping University and 50% at the Mission 0 House in Gothenburg. Accommodation arrangements will be discussed on an individual level during the interviews.
This research is part of a bigger project coordinated by the Mission 0 House at Gothenburg in collaboration with 5 universities in Sweden. Read more here.
The primary objective of this research is to develop zero-emission alternatives to the carbothermic reduction of minerals. Our goal is to find methods that bypass such carbon-intensive approaches, thereby eliminating the environmental footprint of metal production, as a major source of man-made greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve the goals, the Postdoc position will address:
