Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping, Avdelningen för Material och Tillverkning

The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. We collaborate with the surrounding society to develop new technology and spread knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness of companies. We have been awarded the accreditation "Engaged University" by the international organization ACEEU (Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities) and in three categories received the highest rating "Excellent". Working with us, you are close to colleagues in an international environment with great opportunities to influence and develop.

The research at the department for Materials and Manufacturing is focused on four main areas, related to cast iron and other Fe alloys, Al and light alloys, surface technology and simulation and optimization. The research approach is focused on the relationship between design, manufacturing process, microstructure and final properties from mechanism to industrial application. The department today consists of 35 researchers and PhD students with background in material science and engineering, chemistry, mechanics and physics. The work environment is international and multicultural.

The PhD student position is part of an european ITN network consisting of 15 PhD students enrolled at different universities and institutes across Europe called mCBEEs (see www.mcbees.eu). The mCBEEs consortium has the aim to perform research related to corrosion on microscale in applications linked to electronics, energy and biomaterials. Each PhD student in the consortium will focus on a specific project but with a certain level of interconnection and synergy to the others. Inside the consortium, the students will attend common training activities and networking events.

Job description

The work consists of research and a limited amount of teaching or other tasks. The candidate will be enrolled in the educational program of the research school for Industrial Product Realization at the School of Engineering. The research project will focus on corrosion and protection of Al and Cu alloys. The main goal is to develop a conversion coatings for the corrosion protection of micro-featured systems and understanding the corrosion protection mechanism at localized level. Two systems will be target: Cu and Cu alloy in electronics and Al and Al alloys for energy applications.

3 research exchanges are planned with some consortium partners (Romania, Spain and Switzerland)
