The School of Engineering, Construction Engineering and Lighting Science

The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realisation. We collaborate with the surrounding society to develop new technology and spread knowledge to strengthen companies' competitiveness. Working with us, you are close to colleagues in an international environment with great opportunities to influence and develop.

The Department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science offers graduate and post-graduate education. The department has an active research environment with research focusing on knowledge-intensive product realization and digitalization (Building Information Modelling, BIM) with a strong focus on the interaction between humans and (lighting/building) products.

To expand the current team executing (inter)nationally renowned lighting research, we are currently looking for a Postdoc for the first phase of the Daylight and Occupancy Sensing Environments (DOSE) project (2 years).

The goal of the DOSE project is to improve the use of energy-efficient smart lighting systems in a residential setting by integration of daylight and the location of sensory systems that satisfy social, economic, and environmental values to support comfortable and acceptable functioning and further development of a smart and efficient (lighting) energy system. As validation is executed in a laboratory setting, practical input from users and conscious/unconscious usage is incorporated in the application and positioning of sensory systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The postdoctoral fellow’s primary task in the DOSE project is to conduct and spread research related to the use of energy-efficient smart lighting systems in a residential setting, including the integration of daylight and occupancy sensing systems. This research is executed in collaboration with other scientific and laboratory staff of the department and school as well as with industrial partners and can be assisted (via the work) by students.

The postdoctoral fellow will get opportunities to participate in teaching and/or supervising in first- and second-cycle courses to enable knowledge transfer. Additionally, knowledge transfer will happen via the writing of (semi-)scientific articles and presentations as (semi-)scientific events and fairs.

REQUIREMENTS

Those qualified for appointment as Postdoctoral fellow have been awarded a Degree of Doctor no more than three years before the application period has expired (the candidate must have gained a Ph.D. before taking the post).

To be an ideal candidate for this Postdoctoral position, you are required to have knowledge of lighting technology and design, and you are eager to execute experimental (field) work, including human behaviour and perception.

Your planning, analysis, and writing skills demonstrate that you are a critical person with an eye for detail and accuracy. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, inquisitive, and analytical in nature. You have the ability to turn visions and ideas into practical working procedures and methods.

You are systematic in your approach and are stimulated by cooperation as well as taking great responsibility and reaching your goals. You are reflective about your work and communicative with your colleagues.

Your communication skills in the English language are excellent, and you can articulate yourself clearly both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the Swedish language is meritorious, but an advantage as part of the research will involve Swedish-speaking residents/ participants as well as industrial partners.

It is meritorious to be experienced in working with sensory and lighting control systems as well as possessing the knowledge and skills regarding the programming of lighting installations and (energy) data analysis.

Knowledge regarding the Swedish (and global) light and building industry is an additional merit.

For full eligibility requirements, see "Appointment Procedure at Jönköping University".
