CHILD is an international interdisciplinary research programme at Jönköping University (JU) engaged in leading research to develop and apply new scientific knowledge to promote the health, development and education of children at risk and with disabilities, particularly focusing on improving their participation in everyday life. The CHILD research team includes professionals in special education, psychology, disability science, education, health and the caring sciences, welfare and social sciences, and child psychiatry and is currently seeking to add new research members. In this context, the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at JU is seeking a professor/Associate Professor in a relevant discipline (e.g., special needs education, psychology, disability science or other equivalent discipline) to strengthen the leadership and research capacity in the CHILD interdisciplinary research programme.

Job description

Applicants should demonstrate an interest in advancing theory and research on life situations of children at risk and with disabilities, with a specific focus on the development of scientific knowledge on participation, inclusion, engagement and learning, of young children in pre-school and primary school-settings.

Major responsibilities for the professor/associate professor will be to: assume a leading role in the development of CHILD as a research environment in collaboration with the professors in CHILD; strengthen the international profile of CHILD; teach within the interdisciplinary international master’s program in Childhood Intervention and in doctoral education, and; work with management of the research program.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a doctoral degree and attained the level of docent (associate professor) or professor in special needs education, psychology, disability science or any other field relevant for this position.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate:

  • evidence of research experience relating to young children’s engagement and learning  
  • evidence of extensive knowledge of scientific methods and advanced statistical data analysis
  • evidence of applying for and obtaining research grants
  • experience of and a strong genuine interest in international research collaborations
  • teaching experience in higher education institutions, graduate and doctoral education
  • extensive experience of supervision of doctoral students
  • extensive experience of working with and managing the development of research projects and programmes

Prior experience of and a strong and genuine interest in managing research, publishing scientific articles and promoting publications in peer-reviewed journals are all considered as merits for the position. Education and training in international contexts and an experience of participation in international research projects are also considered as merits.

Applicants should have excellent skills in speaking and writing in the English language. Skills in the Swedish language, both oral and written, are considered a merit. Applicants are expected to enjoy teamwork and be generous towards colleagues, demonstrate a strong willingness to develop joint research initiatives and have a genuine commitment to international research collaboration.

Employment

Full-time post with conditional tenure. Normally, there is a six-month probationary period.

Working hours: Non-regulated working hours according to the applicable collective agreement.

Start date December 1st, 2017, or as agreed.
