The School of Health and Welfare is part of Jönköping University and one of the leading universities in the country for academic studies in health, care and social work. Your PhD thesis will be a part of a large project with the overall aim of investigate the causes and consequences of obesity across the adult life span. Specifically, will the influences of genetic and environmental factors on obesity and on weight changes be studied, and these will in turn be linked to health and survival in late life. To achieve this aim, data from large epidemiological studies with a focus on aging will be analyzed, but smaller data collection might be required.

Description

You will mainly devote yourself to your research education, but it may also be required for you to teach or work with education management to a limited extent. Each PhD student at the School of Health and Welfare follow an individual study plan, completes joint doctoral student courses and works with the dissertation project.

As a PhD student in this project, you will work on analyzing longitudinal data focusing on measurements of weight, waist- and hip-circumference and health, compiling and presenting results, as well as writing scientific articles.

We are looking for

You who have the ability to work independently as well as you are careful and can keep given timeframes. You have good cooperation and communication skills and can express you well in spoken and written English.

  • Advanced Degree (240 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 ECTS credits at advanced level)
  • Graduated Degree in Gerontology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Care Sciences, Statistics or related topics.
  • Quantitative methods of at least 7.5 ECTS credits (advanced level)

Merit is whether you have knowledge and experience of quantitative data analysis with SAS, SPSS, R or STATA, as well as experience in compiling and presenting results from such analysis. It is also a pretext if you have previously participated in research projects, especially projects with gerontological and/or epidemiological focus. We would like to see that applicants have work experience from the care and care of the elderly, but they are not required to apply for PhD position.
