The School of Health and Welfare is one of four schools within Jönköping University and one of the leading institutions in the country for academic studies in health, nursing and social work. The Department of Rehabilitation (AFR) at the School of Health and Welfare (HHJ) provides bachelor level programs within Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics & Orthotics. Admissions occur once per year. In addition, a one-year master program (Swedish) and a two-year master program (English) in Occupational Therapy are offered. AFR also offers Prosthetic & Orthotic Technician and Pedorthist educations at the technical diploma level (YH).

We are currently in a development phase and have recently revised our undergraduate programs; Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics & Orthotics. The d one-year master´s programs in Occupational Therapy has been running for more than 15 years. In 2015, an international one-year master program in Occupational Therapy, was started and from 2017 we have been offering a two-year international master’s in Occupational therapy.  Additionally, an international master´s program in product development with a specialization in assistive technology (MASTech) focusing on Prosthetics & Orthotics will start in autumn 2020 and numerous commissioned educations are provided. International exchange involving both educators and students is an important and growing aspect of our department.

HHJ and The Department of Rehabilitation are now looking for a Full Professor in Occupational Therapy who will contribute to the development of the department´s education, research and HHJ:s research environments. The position as Full Professor is full-time and includes 50% research.


Your position will involve initiating and leading applications for external funding of research. This includes supporting other researchers in their funding applications and networking. Another important aspect will be contributing to HHJ´s multidisciplinary research.

The position includes teaching, supervision and examination at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels. As a Full Professor you will be expected to participate in and lead the development of teaching at all levels, as well as supervising doctoral students.

Furthermore, you will contribute to the development of AFR´s research and conduct your own research within relevant research environments at HHJ. This includes strengthening and supporting junior researchers within AFR and HHJ´s research environments.

As a Head of Subject in occupational therapy, you will be expected to keep up to date on developments within the discipline, nationally and internationally and in consultation with program managers ensure that intended learning outcomes are fulfilled. You will be responsible for the content and development of occupational therapy as a discipline in accordance with Jönköping University´s rules and regulations for education. This entails a responsibility for continuous quality assurance and quality development of education and research in occupational therapy.


As a Full Professor you will be a member of the School of Health and Welfare Research Board and collaborate with the Head of Research, the Director of the Research School, the Head of Education and the Dean of the School of Health and Welfare.

To qualify as a Full Professor you must demonstrate a research profile showing a clear progression following your dissertation, both in terms of breadth and depth within the subject area. You should also demonstrate work that is of a good international standard and demonstrate teaching expertise through pedagogical development work and/or course development. It is also important to demonstrate a good ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in an efficient and relevant way. You must be able to manage resources in a way that reflects the priorities of the university.

Further, to be eligible for the position the candidate should:

  • have a Ph.D. in Occupational Therapy or in a related subject. This is required in order to maintain our degree awarding rights in Occupational Therapy.
  • be a registered Occupational Therapist.
  • have a relevant and up-to-date scientific portfolio of high-quality publications in Occupational Therapy or related subjects.

Meritorious are experience with:

  • Examination committee assignments.
  • Expert evaluation assignments.

Note: Individuals who do not have competency in Swedish will be expected to obtain this knowledge in the near future.

This is a permanent/full-time position with 50% research time. The starting date in 2021 is negotiable.
