The School of Education and Communication

The School of Education and Communication is part of Jönköping University and offers first, second and third cycle education in several areas within social and educational sciences and the humanities. Here, students across nationalities meet. We are now seeking an Assistant Professor in special education, with the specialization in child participation, learning and health.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate an interest in advancing theory and research on life situations of children at risk and with disabilities, with a specific focus on the development of scientific knowledge on inclusion, engagement and learning, of young children in pre-school and school- settings. 

Major responsibilities of the Assistant Professor will be to teach within the interdisciplinary international master’s program in Childhood Intervention, teach in the pre-school teacher education and special needs education. You will also take an active role in the development of research in the CHILD research environment focusing on learning, participation and health and collaborate with colleagues in the research community.

Candidates should have a doctoral degree in special education, psychology, disability science or other equivalent field relevant for this position and documented research and teaching expertise.

We also expect candidates to have: 

  • evidence of research experience relating to young children’s engagement and learning
  • extensive knowledge of scientific methods and advanced statistical data analysis
  • teaching experience in higher education institutions

Prior experience in international research collaboration, and applying for, and obtaining research grants is considered as merits for the position. The publication of scientific articles, scientific reports, books and popular science publications are also considered as merits for the position. 

Excellent skills in speaking and writing in the English language is a prerequisite and skills in the Swedish language, both oral and written, are considered a merit. Candidates are expected to enjoy teamwork, demonstrate a strong willingness to develop joint research initiatives and have a genuine commitment to national and international research collaboration.
