The School of Education and Communication

The School of Education and Communication is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer education and research in media and communication studies, international work, human resources and teaching. We have extensive activities towards professional training and skills development. The School of Education and Communication welcomes proposals for doctoral thesis projects in Media and Communication Studies oriented toward analyses of contemporary communication processes and media practices aligned with inclusion, democracy, equity, and accessibility to shape life sustaining communities. 

The Department of communication and behavioural sciences is comprised by the subjects Media and communication, Psychology and the research environment CHILD (Children, Health, Intervention, Learning and Development). Within Media and communication, there is a bachelor’s program, an international master’s program (Sustainable Communication), as well as doctoral education. The research in Media and communication has an international profile and, in line with the master’s education, has been oriented towards sustainable communication. Within Media and communication there are some 20 members of staff, covering both academic and practical expertise.

 

OUR OFFER TO YOU

The main focus of a doctoral candidate is to pursue research and produce a written thesis. However, it is possible for doctoral researchers to also pursue teaching and administration, not in excess of 20% of the researcher’s full-time workload. You are expected to be present in the workplace and to contribute to the doctoral education environment. Doctoral employment entails a maximum of four years of fulltime work in duration.

 

YOUR PROFILE

You´ve been awarded a degree at second-cycle level, achieved at least 240 credits, of which 60 credits on second-cycle education in Media and communication science or closely related subject, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad. It is required that you are proficient in communicating effectively in English and in Swedish.

It is meritorious if you have documented interest in sustainability in relation to communication and documented teaching experience in higher education.

Focus will be placed on your aptness to the organization.

 

INFORMATION

The start date of the employment is 1 August 2023, or as agreed upon. We offer a fully financed full-time position which is limited in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for doctoral students.
