The School of Engineering

The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. The department of Industrial product development, production and design conducts education and research in areas such as product development, production development, industrial design and computer supported engineering design. The department is responsible for five educational programmes at Campus in Jönköping, and two programmes in Nässjö and Värnamo.

The department of Industrial product development, production and design is looking for a PhD student in the subject of machine design for the product development research project “Butterfly Effect”.

Job description
As a PhD student, your work will mainly be research studies and research project work focusing on product development. The purpose of the “Butterfly Effect” research project in which you will do work is; creating ability to master complexity in knowledge-intensive product development. Other tasks, such as teaching, do not represent more than 20% of the working hours.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with focus on product development, industrial production or equivalent. Due to the international working environment, a good level of the English language, both written and oral, is expected. It is meritorious if you can speak and write in Swedish.

It is meritorious if you have industrial experience from product development and if you have thesis work done in product development, industrial production or equivalent. Some experience from teaching on University level and experience in programming, CAD, FEM and production-simulation will also be a merit.

The successful candidate is truly committed, creative and curious. You enjoy collaborations, are capable of concretizing visions and ideas in practically feasible working methods and methodology and has good communication skills. It is important that you have analytical and systematical abilities. Also, the ability to work independently with great responsibility and ability to finish dedicated assignments/tasks on time is important.
