Your mission is to lead the organization into the future and place the School of Education and Communication and Jönköping University in the forefront both nationally and internationally. This means a strong focus on setting and anchoring a long-term direction for the school where the main components will be to:

The Dean and MD is responsible for the school’s operations, finances and results and reports to the President of Jönköping University. As a part of the Executive Team of Jönköping University, you will support the President in the development and management of Jönköping University as a whole. Your main focus will be to operationalize the strategies of the School of Education and Communication and Jönköping University: to increase student attraction and satisfaction; to increase international education across the university; to increase internationally competitive research; and to improve external engagement.

As Dean and Managing Director, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and follow-up supporting the strategy. You are responsible for the academic leadership of the school including all aspects of teaching, research, funding and knowledge transfer. Another important task is the management of external stakeholders in a large network of partners and stakeholders, both regionally, nationally and internationally. Furthermore, you will have an overall responsibility for the administrative supervision, the recruitment of faculty and the work environment of the school.

To be successful in this role, you need to have a PhD degree in a relevant field, preferably a professorship. Moreover, you need a solid management experience as a head of department within an academic institution, or other similar position, with full responsibility for operations, resources and employees.  You also need experience of building and developing research environments.

As a leader you have the ability to grasp national and international preconditions and opportunities for higher education and research. You are also capable of developing strategies and taking them into operations. You know how to manage external funding and fruitful collaboration with industry and academia as well as with other partners and stakeholders.

Your leadership is characterized by the ability to listen, communicate and make decisions with integrity, transparency and assertiveness. You have the experience of leading a management team and you are familiar with the management of change. As a leader, you are present and have an interest in people as well as in creating solid management structures. You have strong communication skills in Swedish and English.

The School of Education and Communication is organized as a limited company within Jönköping University. The School offers education and research in the areas of teaching, media and communication studies, international work and human resources. Research is conducted within the research areas Lifelong Learning, Media and Communication Studies, Learning Practices inside and outside School, Practice-based Educational Research, and CHILD (Children, Health, Intervention, Learning and Development). The School also has extensive activities within commissioned education in the area of professional training.

The School of Education and Communication has approximately 2,000 students and 140 faculty and staff.

Research and education are carried out at four schools: School of Engineering, Jönköping International Business School, School of Education and Communication and School of Health and Welfare.

Jönköping University has approximately 11,000 students, of which 2,000 are international students, 800 faculty and staff and it collaborates with 350 international partner universities and 800 host companies.
