A postdoctoral position is available for highly motivated candidates with a background in Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent.
The Department of Materials and Manufacturing is a vibrant multidisciplinary research and education environment that advances the state-of-the-art knowledge and fosters the development of highly skilled researchers and professionals. Our research focuses on material properties and manufacturing processes for mainly metallic components, specifically cast components. The department collaborates with national and international research institutes and industrial partners, and is engaged in basic and applied research projects. Coproduction with industrial partners is a strong characteristic of our project portfolio, both with large companies and SMEs.
The main research focus is on developing high-performance metallic materials that are resistant to burning or combustion in high-pressure, high-purity Oxygen environments. The target products include components for space travel combustion engines. The research involves computational thermodynamics (CALPHAD), high-throughput computational screening methods for alloy design, experimental alloy production (casting and/or AM), testing and characterisation of the thermo-physical and mechanical properties of the designed materials, and benchmarking against existing solutions.
The project is conducted in close collaboration with the Swedish aerospace industry. The position is funded by the IRON-X project (Swedish National Space Agency).
The tasks primarily involve research (minimum 80%) and may also include some educational activities (maximum 20%). You will need to cooperate closely not only with department personnel but also with industrial partners in the project.
You might also co-supervise postgraduate students within the topic.
To ensure industrial relevance, it is essential to maintain a broad perspective on the research, encompassing environmental, economic, and societal impacts.
