The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. The department of Product development, production and design (PPD) conducts education and research in areas such as product development, production development and industrial design. PPD has a strong engagement in the development of research and education within Knowledge Intensive Product Realization which is a strategic area at Jönköping University, especially focusing in integrated product and production development for sustainability and resilience (Website).

PPD is looking for a PhD student in the subjects of Circular production system, Remanufacturing and Information Management for the research projects "REMARKABLE" and "ToolTrace" in collaboration with industrial partners and research organizations.

The PhD student will participate in the strategic development of the production research at the department in close collaboration with the regional industry.

 

Work assignments

Your work will include studying, analyzing, and developing knowledge around production systems and information management to support future demands on circular economy requirements such as remanufacturing and digital product passports. The knowledge to be developed will contribute to future production systems with focus on industrialization, managing information, and circular economy. You will also take part in research studies such as product realization, production development, and information management related to remanufacturing and circularity.

Strategic development of research within the Production Group is to contribute to a continuous analysis and advocation of industrialization aspects by directing research towards key areas such as flexibility, sustainability, information management, remanufacturing, and integration of product design and circularity e.g., design of interfaces between production equipment, products, and operators in a circular production system. Working with industrial partners is also included in the work assignment.

Furthermore, you will be included and expected to engage in department activities. Other tasks, such as teaching, represent a maximum of 20% of the total working hours.

 

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position it is required that you have a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering and Management with focus on circular Production Systems, Information Management, Automation or Remanufacturing.

Master thesis work or final project work within the subject area of production systems and development is expected.

Jönköping University has a clear international character, which requires good written and communicative abilities in English. Due to the collaboration with regional industry a good level of the Swedish language, both written and oral, is expected.

To succeed and thrive in the role, we see it as necessary that you are driven, structured and responsible. It is also important to have good communication and collaboration skills.

It is meritorious if you have:

  • experience in teaching at university level
  • work experience in Production Systems
  • work experience in Automation
  • work experience in Remanufacturing

 

Information

We offer a fully financed full-time position which is limited in accordance with the applicable collective agreement for doctoral students. The start date of the employment is 10 April 2023 or as agreed upon.

The employment as a doctoral student normally covers five years, of which four years (80%) consist of full-time doctoral studies. The employment is extended annually based on the individual study plan. The salary is regulated according to a special doctoral student ladder. Annual working time for teachers according to the university's collective agreement.
