The School of Health and Welfare is one of four schools within Jönköping University and one of the leading institutions in the country for academic studies in health, nursing and social work. The educational role of The Department of Rehabilitation (AFR) is to maintain and deliver bachelor level educations in Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) and Occupational Therapy (OT).  Both programs have large components offered in English and the P&O education is offered entirely in English in addition to be the only clinical P&O education in Sweden.  There is a Masters in OT and a new Masters in Product Development with specialisation in assitive technology (MASTech) starting in autumn 2020.  Additionally, AFR offers two vocational programs: a P&O Technician program and a Pedorthist program. The department has approximately 20 employees.

The department is currently in a period of expansion. This places additional resource demands on all the staff within the department.  With an increasing focus on international collaboration and educations, it is necessary to ensure we have the required resources to maintain a high quality of teaching, supervision and examination within all of our programs at AFR and also research education at HHJ.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Professor of Prosthetics and Orthotics you will initiate and lead research within the main subject area. You will be expected to secure funding for research through external sources. You will shape external collaborations regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as lead and assess instruction, supervision and examinations at the bachelor, masters and doctoral level. An important component of this development will be focused on nurturing/mentoring junior researchers at HHJ.

As professor you will be a member of HHJs Research Board and collaborate with the Dean of Research, the Director of the Research School of Health and Welfare, and the Dean of HHJ. You will also serve as the Subject Head for Prosthetics and Orthotics.

QUALIFICATIONS

For qualifications as a professor it is required that the applicant has a Ph.D. in Prosthetics and Orthotics or another subject deemed relevant by HHJ. The candidate have demonstrated a research profile showing clear progression following their dissertation work in terms of breadth and depth within the subject area and also work that is of a good international standard. The candidate is academically skillful with respect to independent research initiatives, have been the leader of a research team, have the ability to plan and lead research and the ability to communicate research to the surrounding society.

Further, to be eligible for the position the candidate should:

  • have documented ability to obtain external funding for major research and development projects in competition;
  • demonstrate teaching expertise through pedagogic development work and/or course development;
  • demonstrate a sound capacity for third-stream activities – nationally and internationally;
  • demonstrate documented experience from supervision of doctoral students encompassing a substantial part of the doctoral students’ studies;
  • have taken courses in the supervision of doctoral students or acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way.

English and Swedish competency, both spoken and written are additional requirements. This also applies to ease of shaping and maintaining collaborations within and across professions. You should be an individual who leads, motivates and authorizes others in order to achieve common goals in an efficient way. You are a person that coordinates groups and become a reference for others and creates commitment and participation. You also work well with other people, relates to them in a sensitive way, listens, communicates and solves conflicts constructively. You remain calm, stable and controlled when under pressure, keeps a realistic perspective on the situations and focus on relevant things.

Furthermore, meritorious for the appointment are:

  • international experience within education and research;
  • documented experience within quality assessment of P&O education and appointment within international P&O organization(s);
  • documented experience of leading research activities at the organizational level;
  • profound knowledge in the areas of gait, balance, health and welfare.
