The department of Materials and Manufacturing today consists of about 40 researchers and PhD students with a background in material science, chemistry, mechanics and physics. The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from casting and coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation. There are four main research areas that work closely: Al and other light alloys, cast iron, surface technology and simulation and optimisation technology. They form a cutting edge research group at Jönköping University and School of Engineering and have a well-equipped experimental lab for both manufacturing processes and materials characterisation. Besides their fundamental research requirements, most of our research projects are industrial oriented and involve high-tech industrial partners.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The School of Engineering and The Department of Materials and Manufacturing are now looking for two Development Engineers that together should cover the following tasks in the field.

The exact division of the tasks depends on the qualifications of the individual candidates.

We welcome both newly graduated and experienced candidates.

The working tasks that we wish to cover among the two positions, include:

  • operation and maintenance of lab equipment within materials characterisation (microstructure and mechanical properties).
  • operation and maintenance of lab equipment and processes for electrolytic surface treatment.
  • development of standard procedures for using lab equipment and processes in cooperation with scientific staff and suppliers of lab equipment and processes.
  • training of staff and students in using the lab equipment and processes.
  • thoroughly understand and conduct good laboratory practices (quality and safety).
  • perform materials characterisation and surface treatment testing as part of research projects incl. experimental planning, set-up, data collection, data analysis and reporting of results.
  • perform materials characterisation and surface treatment testing as service for external partners.
  • Participate in external networks/workshops for the development of methods to ensure that our laboratory facilities are used to its highest potential.

As a Development Engineer, we think you have the ability to manage tools and instruments, systematic and structured. Have good knowledge about surface finishing or metallurgy and materials characterisation.

We are looking for candidates that have some experience in materials  characterization (preferably metals) or metals manufacturing or finishing, (for example hands on experience in  sample preparation, microstructural analyses, mechanical or physical testing).

The successful candidate is truly interested in experimental work, pays attention to the reliability and quality of the produced work, has a passion for research and eagerly welcomes new challenges, is self-driven, result-oriented and can conduct teamwork in an international and multicultural environment in a respectful manner.
