The Institute of Gerontology (IFG) is a department at the School of Health and Welfare conducting multidisciplinary research, courses and education programs on older age and ageing.

OFFERED POSITION
As Head of Department at IFG, you will have overall responsibility for the Institute, in activities that include research, education, seminars, and responsibility for budget and personnel. You will be tasked to develop strategies for the Institute and will be part of the management team of the School of Health and Welfare. The assignment as Head of Department is on a part-time basis limited to four years, but it is combined with an incumbent position as a full-time permanent Professor/Associate professor.
As Professor/Associate professor you will independently carry out research in gerontology in collaboration with surrounding society (e.g. geriatric clinics, old age care, and civil society), write grant applications, and instruct junior colleges and students. The position also includes planning, initiating, leading and developing teaching activities at the Institute.
YOUR PROFILE
To quality for this position, a PhD degree and competence as associate professor is required. Competence as a full professor is of merit. Applicants should have comprehensive experience of gerontological research from a social or medical perspective and should hold skills and documented excellence within the field. Documented experience of academic leadership is required. The applicant should also have thorough experience of teaching in higher education and supervising doctoral students.
Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement, and knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. English-speaking applicants are expected to learn the Swedish language within two years of employment, to facilitate collaboration with surrounding society.

INFORMATION
Starting date is 1st August 2018 or by agreement. The position is a full-time permanent position as an Professor or Associate professor with a four-year appointment as Head of Department. During the appointment as Head of Department, you will work 50% as Head of Department and 50% as Associate professor/Professor.
