Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is looking for 3 Doctoral Students in Statistics.

JIBS is recognized as an international business school both within Sweden and in an international context. In 2015, JIBS was the first business school in Sweden to receive double accreditation from both AACSB and EQUIS. Working tasks 
As a doctoral student, we offer a fully financed full-time position. Most of your time will be devoted to your doctoral studies (80%) which includes coursework and writing a doctoral thesis. The remaining time is allocated for teaching and administrative tasks. We seek candidates who have a strong wish to conduct high-quality academic scholarship, and an ambition to pursue an international or national research career. 

The statistical research aims at creating advances in the statistical sciences and statistical applications by enriching education and strengthening research on campus and in the wider community. In addition to developing fundamental theory and methodology, we are actively involved in statistical problems that arise for example in such diverse fields as economics, finance, and regional development. Research and dissertation work within Statistics at JIBS has its main focus on developing inference and decision-making methods within econometrics. For more information about research at JIBS, please visit www.jibs.se, where you can also read more about our PhD program. 

Qualifications 
As applicant you should have the equivalent of a master’s level by the time the employment starts. You need to have fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 credit points (ECTS credits), 60 of which should be at the advanced level, or have acquired the equivalent competences some other way. You should hold 90 credit points in Statistics (or the equivalent).   

The main language of research and teaching at JIBS is English. You must be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible for our doctoral program. Skills in other languages, including Swedish, are an advantage. An international outlook as well as prior research, teaching and/or professional experience are also advantageous, as is an ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders in and around the university environment. We seek candidates who have the ambition to pursue an international research career. You enjoy and are stimulated by working independently with great responsibility as well as in a team. It is meritorious if you have programming skills in statistical software packages.

Application 
Your application must include: 

  • A letter-of-intent explaining why you are applying to the position, what you expect from the doctoral programme and why you are interested in JIBS.
  • A description of yourself including your background.
  • Please summarize a preliminary research proposal (max. 3000 words) or at least your main research interests. 
  • CV and attested documents (transcript, diploma).
  • Copy of your bachelor, and your master thesis (if not available at the time of application, the bachelor thesis is sufficient), and other relevant publications.

Assessment 
The following criteria constitutes the basis of assessment applied in the selection: 

  • The general requirements for the doctoral studies;
  • The applicant’s documented knowledge within the subject area;
  • The applicant’s personal profile and motivation for further studies. 

Selection procedure 

  • The selected qualified applicants will be called for an interview. 
  • The preliminary time frame for the interviews is April/May 2019.
  • A decision will be made and communicated during June.
