The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. The Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL) research group currently consists of two full professors, one associate professor, seven assistant professors as well as PhD students and support staff. The main research focus is applied data-driven AI via machine learning and semantic technologies. To ensure a research group with great relevance, a significant part of research and education is carried out in collaboration with the surrounding society and industry. JAIL is building a multidisciplinary team with members from several relevant disciplines, including machine learning, deep learning, NLP, explainable AI and visualization, ontologies and linked data, embedded AI and IoT, etc. Today, we are the largest research group in Computer Science at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University, and we are now ready to take the next step. We are on a strong growth trajectory and are now looking for up to six new staff members, including one full professor, two associate or assistant professors, and three doctoral students. We are looking for those of you who are passionate, independent, creative, curious, and who want to be part of helping us to develop excellent research and education.

Our offer to you

As a doctoral student you will, advised by a supervisory team, carry out a research and coursework program awarding a PhD degree in computer science. Your research will primarily be carried out through externally funded projects in collaboration with academic and industry partners. In addition, you will participate in education on bachelor and master level.

Main duties include:

• Planning and execution of research, and dissemination of research results through publication;
• Completing PhD coursework of ca 90-120 ECTS credits;
• Participating in courses on bachelor and master level (at most 20 %).

Your profile

An applicant meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if he or she has:

• been awarded a degree at second-cycle level, (master) in computer science or a related area.
• achieved at least 240 credits, of which a minimum of 60 credits must have been achieved at second cycle level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

Furthermore, meritorious for the appointment are:

• Strong studies track record (i.e., GPA) on bachelor and master level
• Publishing track record within AI or related computer science disciplines

Your documented track record in planning, analysis and writing tasks demonstrate that you are a critical person with an eye for detail and accuracy. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, inquisitive, and analytical in nature. You have an ability to turn visions and ideas into practical working procedures and methods.

You are systematic in your approach and are stimulated by cooperation as well as taking great responsibility and reaching your goals. You are reflective about your work and communicative with your colleagues

You have good English-language communication skills. Knowledge of the Swedish language is isn't mandatory; but as part of the research will involve Swedish-speaking residents/ participants, it is highly meritorious

Information

Several positions, full time (100%), with start from 2022-09-01, or date agreed upon.
The employment as a doctoral student is limited to 5 years in accordance with applicable collective agreement. Salary is also regulated in collective agreement.
