Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) is one of four schools within Jönköping University. JIBS is looking for a Full Professor/Senior Associate Professor in Finance.

Our successful candidate is a person expected to contribute to the overall development of JIBS and commit to research, teaching, and outreach activities. The person should have the willingness and capacity to take a leading role in developing Finance at JIBS.

Your profile

The new Full Professor or Senior Associate Professor is expected to be a contributor to the development of Finance and JIBS but also contribute to the overall development of the school. You have the willingness and capacity to take a leading role in this development and to embrace diversity and collaboration. In the application, the candidate is expected to describe how one would lead and develop such teaching- and research team. You are a person willing to join current activities as well as develop and lead new initiatives. We are looking for ambitious and motivated candidates that demonstrate excellence in research and teaching with a track record in attracting external funding and engaging with different stakeholders.

Fluency in written and spoken English and the ability to teach and examine courses using English is a prerequisite. In your application, you are expected to outline in the cover letter how your research aligns with the focus areas of JIBS: entrepreneurship, ownership, and renewal.

CeFEO — Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership: Its mission is to conduct high-quality research and disseminate knowledge on different family businesses and ownership topics. 

CEnSE — Centre for Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics: Its mission is to organize, support, and carry out innovative, high-quality, basic as well as policy relevant research on entrepreneurship and spatial economics.

MMTC — Media, Management and Transformation Centre: Its focus is on researching digital innovations and business renewal for more sustainable and globalized industry practices.

Jönköping International Business School’s assessment criteria for employment as a Full Professor

Research requirements

  • A full professor should have published or have accepted for publication 10 or more peerreviewed articles in category 3, 4 or 4* on the ABS journal list. An article in category 4* on the ABS list is counted as 2 articles.
  • Exceptions from the ABS list may be accepted if the article is published in a journal list of high quality, meaning that it is listed in a journal that corresponds to category 3 or higher on the ABS list.
  • For a (full) Professor in the discipline of Statistics, in total 16 or more articles in statistics that are accepted, or published, in journals listed on the Web of Science (WoS) with an impact factor, are required. The articles should have at least the same scientific quality as is conventional within the statistics community, and for other disciplines at JIBS, which is safeguarded by statistical expert evaluators. Applied articles are allowed, but development of new statistical methods or novel evaluations of statistical properties using computer-intensive simulation methods must be a major element of the research focus.
  • Additional books and book chapters with well recognized publishers are a merit.
  • Publications, full length papers, related to the AIS conferences are a merit in the discipline of Informatics.
  • High impact reports are a merit.
  • The majority of the publications should be based on new material/empirical data and/or new theoretical concepts.
  • A full Professor should have established a research agenda and have shown regularity in publishing at a high international level.
  • A full professor should have proven a significant impact in his/her field of research (citations etc.).
  • A full professor should have a documented record as a research leader.
  • A full professor should show documented ability to attract funding.
  • A full professor should constructively interact and cooperate with other. researchers, and show documented active participation in the research society.
  • Other similar tasks.

 

Pedagogical requirements

For advancement to full professor, pedagogical skills and abilities are equally important as scientific skills and should be clearly defined. Both quantity and quality are judged.

Full professors should have strong pedagogical merits:

  • Full professors should verify that they have had the equivalent of about 3 years of full- time teaching (equivalent to about 4500 clock hours). The quality of the teaching shall be verified with course evaluations and a statement from a Director of Studies, a Program director, Student representatives or the equivalent that clearly describes the applicant’s merits as an educator.
  • Full professors should verify that they have documented extensive experience of teaching on all levels, including advanced and PhD levels, and with documented high quality.
  • Full professors should demonstrate that they have acquired pedagogical skills (equivalent to 15 ECTS, including training/courses in supervision equivalent to 7.5 ECTS) and continuously attended pedagogic seminars, workshops or the like.
  • Full professors should demonstrate extensive experience also in supervision on all levels.
  • Full professors should demonstrate experience of supervision of PhD candidates up to defense, and have taught in courses on the PhD level.
  • Full professors are expected to have documented experience in developing new teaching materials or textbooks, as well as creating innovative approaches to pedagogy and/or other similar tasks.
  • When applicable, the above should be accompanied by verifying documents signed by a Director of Studies, a Program director or the equivalent and include an overall evaluation of the duties carried out by the person in question. 

 

Internal and External citizenship

Documented internal and external citizenship is essential and necessary for a position as full professor. A full professor shall contribute to the development of the organization and show leadership skills as a research leader. A full Professor is expected to be physically present in the organization and actively interact with colleagues and students.

 

Internal citizenship includes:

  • Documented experience and success in attracting external research funding on a continuous basis, both as a project manager and in teams of junior researchers.
  • Taking an active role in internal administrative and strategic matters, for instance in leadership positions, and by active participation in the academic debate.
  • Strategically developing and leading research projects and programs on a national or international level.
  • Strategically developing and leading educational projects and programs.
  • Participation in committees and/or boards on the institutional level - and/or other similar activities.

 

External citizenship includes:

  • Continuous dissemination of research results and visibility in the surrounding society, interacting with the local industry.
  • Contribution to society at large and being active in the intellectual public debate. A Professor should be able to show visibility on social media platforms, or in media.
  • Having published practitioner oriented chapters, books or articles Documented co-operation with stakeholders outside academia.
  • Acting as opponent or participant of international evaluation committees for PhD theses or academic positions.
  • Prizes and awards received.
  • Acting as reviewer for international journals or conferences.
  • Membership of industry related and academic boards and committees.
  • Membership in editorial boards or editorship of prestigious academic journals.
  • Designing and organizing scientific (international and national) conferences and workshops.
  • Being a speaker at industry-related events. Being a key-note speaker at international conferences.
  • Leading positions in international scientific associations and active involvement in research councils, funding bodies and other organizations.
  • and/or other similar activities.
