The position is a Post Doc with a focus on Ownership and Family Business, connected to Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO) at JIBS, JU, in Sweden. Since its inception in 2005, CeFEO has been at the forefront of research on family business and comprises scholars from different countries and backgrounds. With more than 50 faculty members and 30 affiliated scholars, several rankings consistently identified CeFEO as one of the top three research centres globally in the area of ownership and family business studies. CeFEO follows the steering idea of combining “Academic Excellence and Practical Relevance”. This mission means to combine rigorous academic research at the international frontier, which is the creation and diffusion of knowledge that is practically relevant for companies, organizations, and individual stakeholders with an interest in ownership and family business issues.  

 

Job description

As a Post Doc you will be dealing with relevant research projects investigate different forms of ownership, the meaning of ownership, property rights, and ownership competencies. The governance area explores the interaction between ownership and corporate governance systems and bodies in different organizations, such as foundations or family businesses, with a disciplinary grounding in strategy, and/or organization and management studies. Relevant projects within entrepreneurship could be related to ownership aspects within the entrepreneurial process. Research projects focused on owners as entrepreneurial actors, that is, enterprising and entrepreneurial families, are also very relevant. Research projects can also combine governance and entrepreneurship lenses and, ideally, forge the link to pressing challenges that business owners face in the contemporary global setting.

The successful candidate for this Post Doc position will work closely with the CeFEO Director Massimo Baù and is expected that the research conducted within the frame of this position will lead to publications in top ranked scientific journals. An ability and interest to share research findings with stakeholders outside academia is also expected.

Most of your time will be devoted to research while benefitting from and contributing in person to JIBS’ vibrant research environment. The remaining time is allocated for teaching and service to CeFEO. It is an excellent opportunity to kick-start or boost a successful research career in an active and collegial research environment. 

 

Qualifications

We seek a Post Doc researcher who would like to pursue high-quality research on ownership and family businesses at Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership (CeFEO). We are particularly interested in candidates with a genuine interest in advancing ownership research and currently conducting research on topics related to governance, entrepreneurship, or family business. Moreover, the ideal candidate has a clear interest to initiate new research projects in these areas.

Please note that individuals close to obtaining their PhD are also welcomed to apply if they have a date for their dissertation defense scheduled before the start of the position.

As a candidate, you should demonstrate your ability to perform high-quality research and display experience in ownership and/or family business research.

Articles published in highly ranked journal (AJG3 or above), or articles in the process of being published in such journals. Practical experience as business owners or family business members. A research agenda aligned with the focus and strategy of CeFEO. Applicants should have an international profile and research network.  A collegial attitude and a willingness to contribute to the organization.

 

Information

The position is a three-year 100% employment as Post Doc starting in Autumn 2024, or according to agreement. Please note that 80% of the position is devoted to research funded by a stipend from the Tore Browald Foundation.
