ProWOOD Graduate School is run by Jönköping University (JU) in collaboration with Linnaeus University (Lnu) and Wood Centre in Nässjö, with financial support from the Knowledge Foundation and participating companies. The graduate school specialises in industrial product realisation for a proactive wood industry. Meeting the needs of the wood industry, we combine knowledge of industrial product realisation with knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of working with wood. Emphasis is mainly on wood manufacturing, i.e. the part of the wood industry where additional value is added to sawn timber. One of the aspects that are considered is the quality of the incoming material.

Now there is a unique opportunity to become part of ProWOOD Graduate School. Ten additional doctoral students will be admitted to the graduate school and commence their studies in September 2017. All of the doctoral students will collaborate closely with one or several companies. The questions that the participating companies are interested in can be divided into three main themes:

  • Techniques and methods for improved product realisation
  • Product and process platforms
  • Competitive and smart production

For all themes, the needs and conditions of the wood industry are considered. You can read more about each company and project at the the ProWOOD website.

Job description
As a doctoral student, you will spend most of your time on third-cycle studies, taking courses and conducting research with support from a team of supervisors. This part of your position will not exceed 20 percent of full-time.

As a doctoral student, you will follow a structured doctoral training process that will be followed up on a number of occasions. For all the positions, you need to have good communication skills and be able to articulate yourself well verbally and in writing in English and/or Swedish (depending on project). You have an inner drive and curiosity that are combined with an analytical and systematic approach. You enjoy and are stimulated by working independently with great responsibility as well as in a team.
