The School of Education and Communication (SEC) is one of four specialised higher education institutions at JU. We conduct education and research in the aeras of Teacher Education, Media and Communication Studies, International Work – Global Studies, and Human Resources. In addition, we have extensive contract education activities mainly in continuing professional development. SEC has approximately 2000 students and 180 employees.

SEC’s research spans many fields in the humanities and social sciences with language, literature, diversity and media within the Communication, Culture and Diversity (CCD) research environment and within Lifelong Learning research environment. SEC’s research supports Teacher Education and education in Media and Communication Studies, International Work – Global Studies, and the Human Resources field.

Research at the School of Education and Communication (SEC) focuses on how communication and learning can be developed across the life span in order to support various groups and individuals and their participation and involvement in a range of cultural and knowledge creation contexts. This includes exploring how current and new knowledge can be used in the development of communication skills and learning capacity.

Our perspective is lifelong and is a response to how communication and learning can contribute to work on contemporary social issues related to diversity, sustainability, culture and digitalisation.
